Mobile Screenings Take to the Road
Contact: Stacy Bingham, (402) 481-8689Lincoln, Nebr. - Residents of Lincoln and rural communities can easily access a variety of health screenings thanks to a new, specially built mobile screening service vehicle provided by BryanLGH Medical Center.
The vehicle is a 54-foot semi-trailer truck that has been converted to a health screening environment. It includes three separate screening bays, a waiting area, restroom and all equipment to perform screening exams. The comfortable environment includes wheelchair accessibility; the truck can be independently operated in any location as it has a self contained generator on board.
Professional staff from BryanLGH, using the same leading-edge equipment as that at the medical center, will work in conjunction with community businesses, civic organizations, churches, hospitals, retirement homes and other organizations to provide screening services right at the door. Such services might not otherwise be available for their constituents.
Heart and circulatory diseases, cancer, diabetes, stroke and other screenings can be provided in the vehicle.
Mobile screening adds to the high quality health care already existing in the community and can be a beneficial resource to employers striving for a healthier workforce, to civic groups or church congregations. Screenings can be scheduled at a convenient time for the community involved and could be provided along with other events.
"We offer this as a community service to help consumers find their risk factors for a variety of conditions," said Eric Hoesing, director of cardiovascular services at BryanLGH. "With the menu of screenings we've developed, the sponsoring organization can fill in gaps in what is offered locally. Plus, it makes it easier for them when we pull up at the door, ready to go."
In most cases there will be costs associated with the screenings; however, they will be nominal Hoesing said.
Lincoln's Salvation Army headquarters at 2625 Potter was the site of the screening truck's unveiling. A variety of cancer screenings took place there on Saturday, Nov. 3. Hoesing said a full schedule has yet to be developed, but he hopes the truck will become a familiar sight in Lincoln and on Nebraska highways.
