Parasomnias

Parasomnia is used to describe a wide range of sleep related events, such as:

  • Sleepwalking
  • Sleeptalking
  • Sleep-related eating
  • Sleep terrors
  • Confusional arousals
A parasomnia is when the person is awake enough to act out behaviors, but is still asleep and not aware of the activities. They usually cannot recall them in the morning. These episodes are usually infrequent, but occasionally they are bothersome enough to warrant medical attention, especially if the person or a bed partner is injured.
