LINCOLN, Neb. — As a member of the national healthcare alliance, VHA, Inc., BryanLGH Medical Center is participating in a national program called TICU (Transformation of the Intensive Care Unit). The focus of the initiative is to save more patients who might have previously been affected by ventilator-associated pneumonia or central line infections.
Data from the TICU project shows participating hospitals averaged 41 percent decline in ventilator-associated pneumonia rates, 18 percent reduction in ICU patient mortality and 11 percent reduction in length of stay.
BryanLGH has one of the lowest central line infection rates in the nation and has been nationally recognized for having no cases of ventilator-associated pneumonia for 12 consecutive months. Through VHA’s TICU program, BryanLGH Medical Center has collaborated with leading hospitals across the country to share and adapt best practices in improving health care.
"Teamwork and a passion for consistent practices have been critical to our success," says Karen Dike, RN, director of critical care services. "Clinical, operational, and cultural improvements made at BryanLGH are saving lives and improving the quality of care for our patients and patients across the country."
